Hi everyone,
I joined HubPages 2 weeks back and I have been trying to write at least 2 hubs per week (even with my job at hand)....I feel that the HubPages members are very helpful and are more than eager to help out new hubbers...please do read some of my hubs and leave a few comments/suggestions...I would truly appreciate it...Thank you in advance!
Welcome to HubPages!
Just to let you know, the proper use of the Extreme Hub Makeover forum thread is for you to post a few links to hubs you want reviewed, then for you to take the advice and make adjustments.
To be fair to other hub writers, you shouldn't be asking them to review everything you've written. They freely give their advice, so you can improve, it's not fair to ask them to go through all.
I've posted a couple of your links already(below) so you do not have to. I'm going to check them out.
http://hubpages.com/hub/What-is-Happine … -Happiness
http://hubpages.com/hub/Camping-Checkli … ners-Guide
http://hubpages.com/hub/Online-Social-N … on-or-Bane
The hub below could use a few adjustments.
http://hubpages.com/hub/Online-Social-N … on-or-Bane
(a) Use more text capsules
(b) You could add more content too, but not sure how many words are in your hub.
(c) Use better spacing.(*at the end of a sentence, there should be a space before the next word begins. Everything is crunched together and better paragraphing would help your article flow.
**(a) when you add more text capsules, you will give yourself better ad spaces for adsense links(*hopefully you signed up for adsense). Also, there should not be a photo/picture next to your first text capsule, because that is prime real-estate for adsense ads. When you put a picture next to the first text capsule, you automatically push down the adsense ad links to a different location.
***on a side note- you have a link directing your reader to a business ezine, then have a news capsules below it, have you tried putting these side by side? It might look better.
Just a thought.
Hi Casgil. These are helpful tips, especially the one which tells me not to put a picture in the first paragraph.About not using more text capsules, this was one of the earlier hubs which I wrote so I was not aware that I could add more capsules. However I am aware of that now.But thank you for bringing that up.I will keep these points in mind from the next hub onwards.
The hub below:
http://hubpages.com/hub/Camping-Checkli … ners-Guide
(a) Use more text capsules. (play with the capsules and layout options)
(b) The pictures again, as stated in the previous hub, should be relocated.
(c) Use more paragraphs and spacing is the same as previous hub reviewed also.
Others might have other things, but that's what I see.
The hub below:
http://hubpages.com/hub/What-is-Happine … -Happiness
Same issues as the other two.
I only looked at one--the happiness hub. Ditto what Cagsil said.
Also, do not use a picture next to or above the first text capsule if you're here to make $$. It takes away prime advertising space.
And do you have any other words for "happiness?" You used it a total of nine times in the first paragraph alone.
You say you are going to list ten tips. If you did that, be sure to set them out so that you have 10 clearly defined sections/paragraphs or readers just might feel cheated.
And welcome to HubPages!
Hi Ironner, thanks for going through my hubs.I think the first para tip is an important one. Will always remember it.
Yes nine times is not good :-), I should try to use another word.
I have said that I am not going to list 10 tips :-), because I don't think that reading 10 tips can make you happy! So I have shared some thoughts.
But thank you for your tips though.I am glad that you are eager to help out new hubbers.
I thought the camping one was very good and wouldn't have guessed it to be a new hubber. I do agree to make sure that the top space is available for ads.
Otherwise, it looks good, the Amazon ads are appropriate, and easy to read. Good job.
I just finished reading happiness. Unlike the camping one, this one felt rambling. I would not have read this if I wasn't reading it for this makeover. It was pretty boring.
To improve it, break it into several points that you want to make. Put each point into a capsule. Throw out about half of the text. What you have left would probably make the point. This in no way recognizes the short attention span of internet readers. They are here to find something out.
You also need to save that top place for ads. I don't always do that well my self.
Sometimes when I want something on the top, I put an empty capsule at the top and then publish it. That makes a little space just above the photo you have for some ads.
Found you Visiting Las Vegas very informative. Having been there quite a few times I think you gave some great advice. All in all, pretty good for a newbie!
hi and welcome! you are obviously doing something right as your overall score of 96 is very impressive!
keep up the good work

A very kind soul noticed a month ago that I need to learn how to break up my text with photos or something between the paragraphs when my text is long. She explained how to do it. I tried and couldn't grasp it. Then I misplaced or accidentally deleted her email -- so I haven't...

I got a poorly worded to the point of being offensive email from the team about one of my hubs that got unpublished. I replied with a request for clarification. Almost 24 hours passed since. I am wondering, how long I have to wait for the response? Now, I keep quiet about one of my workers waiting...

Once you've researched, drafted, edited, proofed... and before you've published your hub, you should think about a few things you could do to do it justice and add some extra appeal to it.1) Photo or Illustration? I like at LEAST one image. That way when it comes up in the hub search results it has...

I have a question for those of you who use Amazon in your hubs. Let's say that you are writing a hub with a list of different products. Do you think it's better to put all the amazon stuff at the bottom of the hub, all in one place, or to spread the ads throughout the hub, with one ad per product?...

One or two of my hubs have fallen victim to the "does not meet quality standards" empty bubble. In one case, I imagine it is because the hub falls under the "purely personal" category, better suited to a blog. That's fine. I can move it. (It's an older hub...

Is it right to add a text capsule or a picture to a hub I wrote long ago?I like to go through my hub especially when I get a comment on one of my older hubs. Sometimes I feel that there could have been some more information there. Is it ok to add some more text matter or a picture to the hub?
