Should the Disney Channel Have Shows With Gay Characters?

   why do they not?  Not suggesting characters with 'hi I am  gay' T shirts, just known they are and its no different than the others?
   
   But it is, not bad.  But what's the need to put it out there?  We could argue a million why not have ...................... etc

      The disney corporation is famous for it's fantasy worlds. In some people world today, gays dont naturally occur and this is the message they demand  to see. That they refuse to accept the obvious truth about the seven dwarves is just a symptom of their delusional state.

      Personally I think so. Now I don't mean the stereotypical gays that often the media and society usually already falsely portrays and exaggerates but just the majority of gays and lesbians which, to me are just as 'regular' (or whatever you would like to refer to this as) of people as anyone else.

      I think it would be fine, as it would represent the people that kids will encounter in life.  Granted, there are many Disney characters are completely ridiculous.  I mean, how many talking animals do you know?

      Well first of all, you have to take in mind that Disney is nothing more than a corporation designed primarily to make money from it's key demographic.  Most Disney films and shows on the Disney Channel are marketed specifically towards families and kids.  Sure, there's a few Disney films that adults can enjoy too like the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies, but those are rare exceptions. Majority of shows and movies marketed under the Disney name brand is geared towards a family friendly audience, as Disney films tend to cater to the majority demographic.  therefore, you won't see them often putting up controversial subject matter under their house name. 
      
      And with the way American families are now, most families aren't comfortable with the idea of having homosexuals anywhere near their children in any fathomable way.  Not that I would ever agree with that assessment, but this is just how many families think.  Therefore, Disney doesn't want to piss off their key demographic just to make a politically correct statement about how gays are outcasts in society due to stereotyping. 
      
      Sure, they may address that matter on one of the shows on their affiliate network, ABC, but they'll never do it under their main company name, Disney, as they typically try to avoid controversial stereotypes these days.  Now before you bring up racial slurs and interpretations in classic films like "Dumbo" and "Peter Pan", then I do have a few points to make about that.  Those movies only worked because A) they were made during a time when America wasn't as politically correct as it is today, and B) racism and racial stereotypes were more acceptable back then.  Sadly, until gays become more accepted into mainstream society and media, then you'll never see Disney have an openly gay character.  Sure, we can gripe all we want about it, but Disney only cares about making money.  That's just reality.
      
      Yes, Disney is hypocritical in the sense that they'll gladly become private owners of the porn company, Vivid Videos, that features tons of gay sex between women and men according to various news sources, yet you won't see them promote openly gay characters on the Disney Channel.  I know it's a screwed up double standard, but that's life.  Disney doesn't care about what piss ant people like you or me think, as they only care about making money.  My only advice to you kim if you really want them to introduce a gay character into one of Disney Channel's shows, then you can do one or a combination of the following:
      
      1) start a petition.  go around your area and try to get as many signatures from as many people as humanly possible to show Disney that a large majority of america wants a openly gay character in one of their shows.
      
      2) if you have a inside connection with one of Disney's higher ups, then I'd call them to see if they can put in a good word about your idea
      
      3) Work your way up the Disney corporate ladder and getting a degree in film and/or marketing.  Once you spend some time within the Disney corporation meeting the right people and kissing a whole lot of a**, then you should eventually find yourself in a position of power to even suggest the idea to Disney CEO's and investors.
      
      4) You can hit them where it hurts....their WALLETS!  Just write them a letter demanding they start producing more openly gay characters into their family shows on Disney channel or else you and a bunch of your associates will boycott anything Disney or affiliated.  Of course, they probably won't care at first, but this is why it'll be important for you and your followers to actually go through with the idea.  Then once you spend a great deal of time boycotting all things Disney related or affiliated, and it starts to affect the amount of revenue they generate per year.  then you might be able to force Disney to change their views on this subject matter.
      
      However, all these ideas would take a lot of time to get the message across to Disney, but these are your only options you can do if you truly want them to change their approach to programming. 
      
      On a personal note though, I do agree with everyone that thinks it's a good idea to introduce a openly gay character, as it would bring a lot more awareness to the issue of how gays are often ridiculed in our society.  however, that's just not reality, as i doubt disney will ever go for it in the near future at least.

   I think if a show is going to have a sexual element then it is a fair topic to include. If we are talking Muppet style shows and cartoons then generally sexual stuff is left out, of all sorts. Hannah Montana or whatever would probably benifit from an episode showing what it is like for a young person who is discovering they are gay, how their peers treat them, how their family treat them etc. could raise awareness to stop the bullying that can and does happen.

               I think my daytime is your evening, we often seem to be out of sync time wise. I have a few hubs with my art on plus links to my store. it is a pretty cool set up really, with a print on demand company that will make the items only once a person has bought and they do it from the closest possible print factory (or whatever). I hope I don't get in trouble for self promotion but you did ask so it might be OK (besides I don't mind a small spanking! LOL)
