My new blog is set up on Wordpress, which has a space to show blogs that have linked to mine. I've also signed up for the Google webmaster tools which show sites that have linked to mine.
Neither of them is showing any links, yet I know they exist. There are several belly dance sites which have linked to mine, plus articles I've posted at ezine, AC and here on HP. Not to mention a few links on forums around the place.
How long does it take for links to show up?
I think it can take a several weeks or more for links to show up in the webmaster tools. I don't know how it works in wordpress.
Thanks Paul. Sounds like it's just me being impatient as usual!
Or months even! Though hubpages one show up fairly fast! the yahoo tool shows more backlinks faster
That's what flummoxed me, Lissie. I have two links on HubPages articles and they haven't shown up yet - it's been at least a month.
I hadn't looked at the Yahoo tool - you're right, it's picked up quite a few of the links already, though (once again) not the HP ones.
Only the google-bot knows; its pretty random or very hi-tech take your pick :-)
I would not waste my time waiting for links to show up on Google, either with the link: operator in the search tool or in the Webmaster tools.
Here is Google's info on links being reported

Note the comment at the bottom
"Note: While the External links page provides a larger sampling of links to your site, not all links to your site may be listed. This is normal."

I had a hub that was receiving around 1,300-1,500 views per day. It was chosen as Editor's Choice. It then dropped by about 1,000 views per day. I opted out of the program, but that hub is no longer showing in Google for the keywords that brought it all the traffic before EC messed it up. How can I...

What is the deal with the HP blog post about optimizing Hubpages and Adsense? The was supposedly written by a Google employee (Tran) for HP writers, but the info that is in it is misleading. Yes, write unique content that is for the reader not the...

When I first signed up with GA I used hubpages.com Later I added my subdomain address. However, my account is set up with property name hubpages.com and default URL my subdomain. I believe this is incorrect. Thus Webmaster Tools are saying that my sites are not verified. What do I need to do?...

For a couple of weeks now, I've been trying without success to add a sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools. Every time I test or submit the map, I get a 404 error.I've done this process before for other sites with no problem, and have read a couple of hubs on how to do it here at HP. ...

I am convinced that it won't work but I've seen people who claimed that they can get Hubpages into Webmaster Tools, and there is no need to verify.I don't understand what is "no need to verify". There is no way I can get my hubpages site (http://hubpages.com/profile/Dense) in there if it...
