Is it still possible to close a question (that I asked)?

It used to be possible for the asker to close a Question, and I've done this successfully a few months ago.  However, now I cannot find the option for that anymore.

Am I doing something wrong or has the 'close this question' option been removed?

I looked in 'my account' under activity where I got a list of my Questions.  But there is no option there to close any of my current questions. I also looked under the question itself and I couldn't find the option there either.  (My browser is IE7.)  I'd appreciate any help/guidance/info that anyone can give.  Thanks!

You should be able to close it from here:

Hi, thanks for your response.  The page you directed me to comes up fine and shows a list of my questions.  But, there is still no option to close any of the questions.

Giselle, go to "activity" under "my account". Any questions you've asked should be listed. You should also be able to close them from there. I closed a question, just the other day. wink

          Hi Cagsil,

I did as you suggested (this took me to the same webpage as the response from Website Examiner did, so I must be doing that right).  Under each of the questions I've asked there are 3 options.  None of them are to close that question.  The things I can click on are:   'x Answers',  'Answer this question' and 'unfollow' .  About 4 months ago I was able to close a question just fine, but now I just don't see the option to do that anywhere on my list of questions.

I think it might be something browser-specific because I also have problems with the new Customizable Home Page not loading properly.

Cagsil, it was also helpful to know that you had successfully closed a question recently.

I'm still puzzled.... am I looking for the 'close question' button in the wrong place? (I'm looking under each of the questions in my list of questions I asked).  I'd be keen to get more input that anyone is willing to give.  Thanks!

I'm not sure if it is browser specific, but I doubt it. However, I just did it the other day and the question was opened for about 4 months or longer.

If you don't have that option, it might not be an option available. I would email admin about closing the question or any related specifics about doing so. smile

Cagsil, thanks again - your post here made me wonder if the question has to be open for a certain minimum period of time before the option to close it comes up.  I checked on my list of questions and my oldest open question is only 8 weeks old... so maybe it takes longer before it is 'old' enough to be closed.  Or maybe not!? - but as you said, I can always email admin to get it done if necessary.

I thought that I might have figured out how to do it, and so I went to my Activity page.  I have the same problem as you, Giselle Maine.  There is no "Close this question" button there (on the "Questions You Asked" page) or on the separate page where the question is located.  Some of my questions have been open much longer than four months, so that can't be the problem.  Maybe it really is browser-specific.

I've never asked a question. What purpose does asking questions actually have?

Hi IzzyM.  Different people ask all sorts of questions on almost any topic you can think about for different reasons.

Personally, I find it useful if I'm seeking several people's opinions on something.  One example of this is when I wanted to find out what was a good type of dip to serve at a Super Bowl party; fellow hubbers were very helpful with suggestions, you can see this Q&A here which includes my response on whose suggestion I ultimately went with: http://hubpages.com/question/100492/fav … swer215116

Any hubber can vote an Answer up (or down), even if they didn't participate in the Question.  There are all kinds of questions people ask on almost any topic.  Check out the 'Answers' link at the top of this (or any) hubpage to find out what some of the latest questions are!

So hubbers use it as a kind of poll to gauge opinion when they are writing hubs?
        Or not..

Not only that, other Hubbers can write Hubs as a response to questions, which is what Hubpages encourages. wink

Hi Aficionada, thanks for taking the time to respond.  Sorry to hear you are having the same problem.  Like you said, maybe it is browser-specific.  I'm on IE7.  It would be great to hear from anyone else who is having problems with closing questions, to see if it is the same browser.

Hi Cagsil - awesome, it's always great from you & I'm so glad you're helping out on this forum. Your info was helpful thanks.

I'm hoping others might also tell us if they're having problems with the issue of closing questions and what browser they're using.

Cagsil, you and I agree on something.  I find that amusing.  Enough to post it as a complete non sequitor to the OP.  Sorry, Giselle.  I'm a Firefox baby myself.  IE makes me wanna throw things. smile

Like I initially suggested before I rewrote my post, you can flag the question and then request it to be closed, explaining why in the comments.

Hi Website Examiner, thanks that's a great suggestion which will definitely allow me to get that question closed.

The reason I'm also interested in seeing if it's browser-specific is because if that's the case, I can report it as a technical issue so it might hopefully get fixed someday.

All this time here and its not something I've ever really looked at even though these questions keep appearing in stats. I think if I had a question I would ask it in the forums.

Hi IzzyM.  This is my first time initiating a forum discussion, so it is not like I have had much experience with that.  I have noticed that the forum is a lot more interactive a bit more like a conversation, which is helpful if it's a problem or issue (like here) or just if the asker wants to have plenty of input too.  On the other hand I have noticed the regular Q&A is a bit 'easier' to keep up with for the person intiating it because it typically doesn't require as much response (apart from voting Answers up if they are helpful).
