It is important to actually read the hub you are commenting on. It seems that every time I publish a hub I get at least one comment saying something that proves they didn't read the hub. In the future I will be deleting these comments even though they are well intentioned. It will better for your sake if others who did read the article didn't see your comments.

I would only delete unrelated comments that look like spam. Just let the comment love flow. I would enjoy that. I am not commenting on hubs I don`t read, but just saying my point of view.
As for other places I comment, several forums and blogs, I use special software that helps me in my link-building strategies (not related but just giving out some freebies tips).

Comment love to me is reading a hub and leaving a thoughtful comment. Not reading  a hub and leaving a comment under the pretense that you did is self-promotion bordering on spam.

You are perfectly right. But I would not mind having lots of good comments thou. And it`s not self-promotion, at least here on Hubpages. There isn`t any other link except to the users profile, anyone that uses comments to spam on Hubpages won`t be for long here.

Last time I checked the user profile is where all the user hubs are found.

The problem with the comments I've been getting is the reader doesn't understand the material and is leaving a comment promoting the opposite view without even realizing it. For example, "I am going to have to give that a try," when the article is about avoiding the product because it is bad for your health.

Yes that is spam, you should point this out to Hubpages Team.

I totally agree with both of you...and I just reported to Hubpages moderator one big 'comment spammer', who was super spamming all over nice hubs with back links to its web sites...

Good Job. Not really sure how the authors of the Hubs were approving comments with links to other websites, I wouldn`t do that. I`ve noticed some spammers, they tend to go on high PR hubs.

I am glad you did.  I delete all the people who do not have HubPages account and post a link.  Unless the Hubber has been here for awhile and is posting a link of relevance to the hub, then and only then will I keep it.

I didn't know any of this was happening , thank goodness I am starting to read the forums.
I have had comments left and they were a little unique so now I understand what is happening I just didn't want to be rude and deny them there comment. What is back linking? I realize I have been here only for 10 months but I still have a very large learning curve please explain as I do not want to be lost in lingo. ::::::::smile

Back links are links pointing to your site from other sites/pages, they can improve traffic and search engines rankings. smile

Thank you so much for that response as I didn't have any idea . I still can't figure out how to use my RSS feed , and no matter how much it is explained I still don't get it. I have tried multiple times and it tells me to give it the feed info , I feel like an idiot but I am still lost when it comes to that. Can you give an example of a feed?

I delete all my stalkers that like to comment their bizarre crap on my articles.

I've found sometimes for the purpose of SEO and article marketing it's best for myself just to leave out the comments section.

I'm going to search all of steve's articles now and start posting comments related to my clay aikin memorabilia collection WoOT~!

There has been a number of times when a clever spammer who isn't a member at HubPages will leave a very relevant and thoughtful message that adds value to my hub. These are the hardest to delete but I just remind myself that they are trying to benefit off of the hard work of others and
their only contribution was a few words and a self-promoting link.

I would suggest following procedure considering evaluation of a comment to your hub: good relevant comment with at least 1 of your main key words (relevancy) could benefit your hub, even tough it takes some link juice from your hub, if your hub qualifies for do-follow attribute. Follow the link of that comment and check up the web site. If web site is not an 'Adsense or affiliate farm' and if web site has equal or higher Google page rank than your hub, you may allow that comment.

Links left in comments are nofollowed.

I am glad to hear this smile.  Just a few minutes ago I ended up deleting a comment that was basically just promoting this guy's forum about cell phones.  At least his link was no-follow until I got around to deleting it.

Thank you Maddie, perfect info! (in the past it was conditioned by hub score and profile score)

Yes Maddie I have noticed that, good to point that out. But still they are valuable back links on the high PR hubs that tend to get tons of traffic.

The links maybe no-follow but I've often found some of my comments when I've done a search on google, so does this apply to your hub page profile link too being a no-follow attribute?

Links maybe no-follow but what about specific keyword phrases that people are trying to dominate, Maybe I am just thinking too hard whilst sat on my potty!!

I did not know that, thanks maudie

I'll stop linking my tin foil deflector beanie website.  I'll find another means to get the word out to paranoid folks in need of such a clever mind probe blocking device.

I am fairly new to the Hub, is there a setting on the comment box that we can possibly set to approve comments before they are posted? My apologies for the overly simple question.

There is a button that say approve or deny or delete forever I have onl used those a couple of times. smile

Sally when you receive comments, you have them appear in your comments section and you can approve them from there on your account page or you can deny them and delete them forever!

Why we consider the links in a comment as a spam. The link will only be considered as an spam if its not relevant to the comment or post otherwise its ok. beacause may be the link contains a useful information related to the hub topic i.e. it makes the hub more useful.

I always try to post a relavent comment when I have read a hub. I have only had a couple of comments to my hubs so would love some comments as it would help me to see if I am writing about the right things and whether my hubs are any good. Self promoting comments are no good though.

    Hi Alex,
My recommendation is to also write article or two so we know who you are , don't be afraid you can do it. :0

Aevan, you can edit the quoted message as we know any link is not allowed as signature in forums here smile
