Can you implement the "Copying Existing Layout" option for Hubs already created? A good example of what this would be used for is say you have a series of favorite comic books, say 10 titles that you want to make reviews for. So you go and create all 10 hubs without first doing the layout on the first one. The other 9 now need to be made from scratch instead of automatically adding a grouping of capsules. Is there anyway this is possible?

    Example:

If this requires capsules being deleted and remade from scratch it could have this warning:

This isn't really a new idea, its a more convent way to use an idea you already have. I think this will benefit a lot of people - I know it will benefit me a lot!

Hi Thranax!  Can you clarify why you wouldn't copy existing layout while creating the Hub, i.e., selecting title, url, layout and categories?

Sure, there are many different reasons why you wouldn't. To be able to copy existing layout at creation of a hub means you have created at least one right there and then of that series. As a writer I have a lot of ideas and rarely the time to make them all at once. I like the fact that I have have a lot of unpublished hubs just holding the topic name I will write when I find the time. But Here are a couple different uses for it:

    1. Consistency - Many Hubbers have 2-5 part guides now that almost all look the same. A Hub could have the same 6 capsules laid out already to make them all appear to be part of that series. Even if changes had to be made adding or removing 1-3 capsules is quicker and more convent then adding and formatting 5-7 on the default one.

    2. Game Character Guides/Reviews - This is my specific use. I went out for my game taking about 30-40 minutes making all the urls for my Character Guides. This PvP game has about 87 characters each I have played and wish to write "Help guides" about them. I would want all of these guides to look the same for people to be able to find what they are looking for, example:

The guide will have a description starting capsule with a picture of the character to the right of it. Under this will be the Runes element that this character should have(Picture capsule) and under that the items(Text capsule with Picture Right Aligned). Each hub will almost have the same exact 10 capsules in the same order with the same ones right aligned. While I didnt have time to make a "mock template" of capsules before I made all the other links shouldn't leave me having to make 887 capsules that would take a lot of writing time to do - I should be able to just copy that first one I made capsule wise and put it on all 87. Because who knows? Since when I made those url's a new game map has been added required a new special section of 2-3 capsules on each of those 87 hubs...another 261 capsules to create 1 by 1 before the rest of the guide is created. Joy.

-Being able to do this under those circumstances would save me almost 1,000 capsule clicks just to create them.-

Like I stated, it isnt a new option its an option that was made available that I really like but didnt use at the only one time I could have. Its kind of funny that right now without being able to change them all like when I made them is sending this message:

"Please write whatever you want on whatever subject you want. The more in-depth original guides and reviews you create will help you obtain search engine traffic on that niche. Please note: You must have the look of your hubs all ready laid out (template) or face the extra work of hand crafting them all even if the option to do this automatically was already given to you too bad you missed it."

I mean if its that complicated to make the change of having that option available I guess I can just take it as a lesson hard learned and go generate 5-10 hubs and call them "Template 1..2..3" etc and make a hub telling other hubbers to be wary to not find themselves in the position I am in.

Okay, I understand now.  I can put it in the que.  Unfortunately, that list is pretty long right now, but thanks for the suggestion!  Always appreciated!  Have a great weekend!  smile
