Let us "change" our username

I understand that we can't change our usernames, but we should be allowed to make tweaks that don't change our domain structure.

For example, my name is marriedwithdebt - this is how it shows up on HP.

If I had known better when I created my account, I would have done Married With Debt or MarriedWithDebt, both of which are more readable to site users. Most of us are accustomed to being forced to make usernames all one word with no spaces.

And, these tweaks wouldn't change my Hub urls, etc.

    Just a suggestion,

    Thanks

When I signed up with HubPages I was given the impression that my user name must not be my real name. If I had known I could have used my real name, I would have. I don't mind mu user name for both accounts but I see where a lot of other users names could be different. I suspect they wouldn't mind the tweak.

Excellent suggestion. We should be able to change our names. Even I want to change my username, but due to the HP terms I'm unable to do so.

While I think it would be confusing to change your user name on whim - I agree that there should be a way to change it.  Maybe one per lifetime or something.

The username is no different than a URL. Which is why it cannot be changed. The same rules apply.

What about making provisions to change the URL when the username changes, like how WordPress does it? You can change everything in your profile including user and display names.

That would be awesome! I made he mistake of using my real name. Didnt think much of it until I found myself restraining from posting certain things or making certain Hubs because of fear my family would run across it....

I don't know the technical aspects.

          They could do a redirect.

Alternatively, users could create an alternate HubPages account as this is perfectly okay.

I would love to be able to change the name on this account to my name. I think it would sound more professional than some random nickname that people used when I was in high school.

I agree. Cardisa insn't bad because it's a combination of my names but a name like "Racoon" or  "LovePuppy" isn't professional sounding at all.

I think this idea would be a good one with some restrictions. If they only gave you one or two times to change it and such. It would be a big decision for the writer to make though, because all of your urls would probably change. Not to mention that your followers might be like "WHO THE #$%^&*&^ IS THIS???". lol

I'd be happy just to be able to tweak my username.

Changing "marriedwithdebt" to "Married with Debt"

Or going from "johnsmith" to "John Smith"

I don't think that would require URL changes.

    That's all I'm asking

The technical aspect of it would mean changing the name even if you just separated the names, it's still changing it, technically.

I totally agree.  I wish I would have known I could use capital letters and spaces when I joined, but I thought it would display our real name or we would at least be able to change it.

I so wish my username was "Brittany Todd".

        That's what I thought too.

Once a change like this is allowed, it would be hard to decide how much is tweaking and what is a real change.
