Would you like to become a more positive person? You should protect yourself from all energy vampires that are stealing your joy. Some of them are people around us, and we can avoid them. However, what should we do with destructive thinking patterns that drain our energy? Here are 5 types of energy vampires you must stop. Find out how to deal with them.

1. Low Self-esteem and Low Self-confidence

Many reports showed that self-love is the best predictor of life happiness. If you don't love yourself how can you expect to be loved and happy? If you don't believe in yourself, you won't succeed and reach your goals. Somebody who is less talented than you will be more successful. Is it fair?

Don’t forget that you are a valuable person because you are unique. Nobody is like you. Don’t even try to become someone else.

Look at yourself in the mirror now. Do you see how beautiful person you are? Say "I love you" to yourself. Repeat it every day. Fall in love with yourself. The first step to a happier life is self-love.

It is not easy to build self-esteem and self-confidence, especially if you are surrounded by people who don’t appreciate you. You should avoid them. Surround yourself with people who will help you become the best version of yourself. You deserve the best.

What is more, you should use proven techniques to increase self-esteem and self-confidence. Write down on paper all your talents, virtues and successes. Read it every day. You will change negative beliefs about yourself, and your life will be much happier.

2. Pessimism

Pessimism is a negative thought pattern that you should break because it keeps you down. It can affect your health. A study from Finland showed that pessimism increases the risk of death caused by coronary heart disease.

Marcus Aurelius said: “Our life is what our thoughts make it.” The glass can be half-full or half-empty. Change your thoughts to change your life. Positive affirmations can help you. The most powerful words are the ones you are talking to yourself.

You should also read positive psychology books. They will help you break your negative thought pattern. It is not impossible. If you are persistent, patient and decisive, you will succeed.

Do you want to be unhappy forever? Don’t you believe you deserve a better life? There were a lot of things we were afraid of, but a lot of them didn’t come true. Did you know it? Look on the bright side of life. Nothing is white or black. All are shades of grey.

We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.

— Oscar Wilde

3. Anger

Anger is a natural human emotion, and it can be useful. When we are angry, we can take a stand against injustice.

On the other hand, uncontrollable anger, cynicism, resentment, and hate are like poison. Only you will feel pain. A boyfriend or a girlfriend who left you won't suffer. You should forgive them for your inner peace. Get rid of anger. Everything happens for a reason. Every experience is an important life lesson. It is all part of growing up.

Furthermore, if you analyze your life, you will realize that your expectations disappointed you. We tend to idealize people we love. We are blind. Other people are not guilty of our blindness. You should lower your expectations and increase your happiness!

4. Excessive Worry

Excessive worry is one of 5 types of energy vampires. It is a complete waste of energy. If you have a problem worrying about it won't solve anything. Even though, it can lead you to depression. We usually worry about things that will never happen. If we can’t change our current situation, we should accept it.

Get rid of excessive worry. If you have problems now, remember that nothing lasts forever. Life is a mixture of happiness and pain. Without pain, we couldn’t appreciate happy moments. Live in the present, not the past or the future because life is happening now! Don’t forget it!

Worry is like a rocking chair: it gives you something to do but never gets you anywhere.

— Erma Bombeck

5. Unrequited Love

Unrequited love is very painful. If you love somebody who doesn't respect you, you are wasting your time. There are ebbs and flows in every relationship. However, if one person irritates you most of the time, that person is not the right for you. You should respect yourself and break up without regrets. Unrequited love will drain your energy.

If you don’t see your worth, you will always choose people who don’t see it either. You deserve somebody who will understand you, support you, and love you. After all, it is better to be alone than in the toxic relationship. Stop focusing on people who have rejected you, and start holding onto the people who have embraced you with love and open arms.
