Are We Still Ready To Collapse

Updated on December 30, 2012

Some archeologists have claimed that some societies collapse because they are just ready to collapse. Gared Diamond of "Guns, Germs and Steel" fame states some societies choose to collapse by making the wrong choices, or they just ran out of their energy source.

Adam Hart-Davis the creator of the series “What the Romans Did for Us ” states that the Roman Empire collapsed because they never kept up with military technology and were overrun by the Barbarians.

A thesis was put forward before the Second World War by someone in the US Dept of Agriculture that the Roman Empire was brought to its knees by famine. There seems to be descriptions of famine in some of Plato’s writings.

There are many reasons why societies collapse and most are centered around overpopulation and climate change.

When the environment around the civilization has been sufficiently destroyed, along comes a severe climate change event and wipes them out. Right now we are about at a point where we can just feed the number of people on the planet and we are waiting for a climate change event.

And our answer to human induced global warming as it has been called is to try and get all countries to limit their CO2 emissions. Yet nowhere was it mentioned if humans are causing the global warming we should do something about limiting the number of people on the planet.

I think we can add another reason why civilizations collapse and that is Being Blind to the Obvious. That is where we are at now - we are staring collapse in the face and turning a blind eye to it. We can put men on the moon but we can’t save ourselves.

Are our beautiful cities going to crumble beneath our feet?
