Indeed, teachers who teach English as a Second Language know that grammar and vocabulary are the most common problem areas for learners of English.

It seems that the textbooks teachers commonly use to teach English as a Second Language sometimes need a little help from supplementary resources.

They usually find supplementary resources on the internet and amazingly such resources are of good quality and free. Yes, superb and free!

A self-study grammar website from which tutors who teach English as a Second Language can get additional study materials is English Grammar in Use, a site that is suitable to intermediate- and advanced-level students who need additional practice in grammar.

English Grammar in Use is indeed easy to use.

Its lessons are arranged in categories like present tense of verbs, past tense of verbs, articles for definite and indefinite nouns, nouns, prepositions, and other parts of speech.

Its lessons are not graded in terms of difficulty, prompting tutors who teach English as a Second Language to use the lessons selectively and depending on the weak areas of students.

Good grammar and vocabulary taught in cute and clever flash animations – that’s what ESL Blues is all about, really.

ESL Blues has tons of lessons about infinitives, gerunds, progressive tense of the verb, adjectives, articles, adverbs, be, past tense of the verb, present simple tense of the verb, present progressive tense of the verb, and vocabulary, to name a few topics.

Arguably the best parts of the site that tutors can use to teach English as a Second Language are the ones about common errors in grammar and problematic vocabulary word pairs, which the author explains succinctly.

Teach English as a Second Language with “Label Me!”

Perhaps teaching vocabulary has never been so visually appealing before Label Me!, a definitive site for sourcing well-illustrated worksheets that tutors who teach English as a Second Language can use to demonstrate English vocabulary.

Label Me! has images on the worksheets that students must label, making them visualize the objects, animals, persons, or places based on names.

The worksheets have themes appropriate for certain occasions.

They are arranged by categories like general biology, animals, plants, astronomy, geography, music, math, human anatomy, geology, weather, arts, and devices.

They can also be given out to beginner up to intermediate learners.

Each lesson is complete with comprehension questions, supporting tutors who teach English as a Second Language learners in making activities and quizzes for students.

The English Language Centre site is suitable to adult learners from across all tiers of proficiency – upper beginner, lower intermediate, intermediate, upper intermediate, or advanced levels of English skills.

Other freebies on the site that can be used to teach English as a Second Language are advanced listening, advanced writing, basic listening, basic writing, intermediate listening, and intermediate writing.

      KerlynB ... yes and in some schools, too. Of course, the person who wants to learn should contact the librarian and the school's counselor to coordinate with the schedules and transportation. It could not happen in the Philippines as long as too much graft and corruption are rampant and blatant :(

      Great facts! Good to know that there are free materials to help learn and teach ESL. From what I know, lessons are given free to immigrants in libraries and schools and they use the Rosetta Stone. Truly a great hub!
