Joseph was a dreamer

Dreaming is part of growth
Dreaming is part of growth

A dreamer and his dreams.

"But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save many people alive. Now, therefore, fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.

Above are the words of Joseph to his brothers, who one day thrown him into an empty well and then sold him for twenty shekels of silver to the Ishmaelites, who took him to Egypt. They wanted to kill him. They throw him into a dry cistern. His brothers were very hard-hearted and were never hesitated to harm their own brother. They tried to shatter his dreams.

In our everyday life, we also come in to contact with such brothers and sisters in our life. What would you do if you have to face such a person in your life? Will you forgive unconditionally to your brother or sister who harms you without any specific reason? Will you show compassion to him when you have the power and sources to avenge their mistake? Jesus reminds us that "But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins." while reading this, stop for a moment. Is there any face that comes up in your mind who need your forgiveness? Do you see someone in your mind to whom you refused to forgive? Who has done a grave mistake with you? Remember "But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."

Let me remind you, Walking with God means, come into an agreement with God. You have to agree with the other to walk together. If you are not in agreement with the other who is walking along with you, you cannot continue the journey. Either you should turn to your way or agree with God and walk along with him. There is the benefit in walking with God. If you walk with God, His blessings are yours. He will take care of you.

Not forgiving means, you are not in agreement with your God. Your ways with God has split apart. You are walking in the opposite direction. It should alarm you! Come into agreement with God. I have heard people saying that I cannot forgive this. I cannot forgive that etc. I am wondering how they can lead a Christian life?

We read, "The LORD was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master.

Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned.

See the benefits of walking with God! It is not that there is no trouble for God's people. Sure, there is trouble for the people of God. But the good news is that in the midst of all your troubles you'll see the protection of your God. You are walking with God and God is walking with you. You are in agreement with your God. And your God is in agreement with you. What a wonderful and amazing life it is?

Joseph was not a bitter guy that he deserves this kind of cruel treatment from his brothers. No, bitterness in the behavior of Joseph was not the reason for trying to harm Joseph by his brothers. But I found 3 reasons for their hardheartedness. They are:

1. Genesis 37:2
Joseph, a young man of seventeen, was tending the flocks with his brothers, the sons of Bilhah and the sons of Zilpah, his father’s wives, and he brought their father a bad report about them.

2. Genesis 37:1-3
Now Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons because he had been born to him in his old age; and he made an ornate robe for him.

3. Genesis 37:2-4
Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more.

The first reason was Joseph brought the bad report to his father about his brothers. His brothers, when they did bad things, wanted to cover it up. They do not want to bring it up. Sometimes we find ourselves behaving like Joseph's brothers. We are the same as these guys. We want to cover up all our misdeeds. We want to keep all the bad behaviors secret. But the truth is that we cannot cover up our evils deeds too long. One day it will come up and made known to everyone around us. Joseph come to know about the sin they committed. We do not know what sin they committed as it is not mentioned in the Bible. Our God is a noble God who never wants to expose our sins. That is why a specific sin is not mentioned in the bible. Psalm 103:12 as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. Micah 7:19 "You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea." Hallelujah! What a compassionate God we have. A God who forgives and forgets our sins.

This knowledge of his brothers sin and reporting it to his the father was the crime Joseph did. I think Joseph did it with an intention to save his brothers from doing more severe sin. Or he wanted to prevent them to continue in their sin. Joseph thought his father would correct his brothers. So that they could lead a Godly life.

Yes when we see our loved ones walking in the wrong ways, we should do something to correct them. Otherwise, they may do more severe sins. Also, we should know that God forgives all sins. Personally, you may correct them. If you think they would not listen to you, then use someone who has power or influence over them. Exposing their sins in front of others is not the way. There are chances that they may become rebellious. Report it to someone who will be able to handle it properly. That is the way.

So, this sin of his brothers produced another sin. Hatred! Hatred towards Joseph. Our sins can produce another sin. They never thought that the reporting of their sin is to correct them. They took it in the other way. There are two sides to every action. Godly people take the positive side and thank God for correcting them. But for those who are designed for the eternal fire would take the negative side of the action and they grow in that direction. Romans 8:28 says "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."

Be watchful, our small sins may lead us to serious sins. When someone tries to correct us, please pause a second and think about it. Whether we heed or not, God will continue his work with people who are willing to listen or obey Him.

The second reason for the trouble of Joseph was the love of his father. His father Jacob loved Joseph very much. We love our children if they are obedient and trustworthy. Jacob may have found some good qualities in Joseph. Moreover, Joseph was born to Jacob in his old age. A cute young baby boy. Jacob loved him and made an ornate robe for Joseph. To express his love. A gift. But this love also becomes a trouble for Joseph.

If we are not loved, there is a reason for that. If someone is more loved than us, there is a reason behind it. Find out that reason. There must be some good qualities, which we lack in our life. Bring that good quality in our life. We also become a loved one. There is no gain in feeling envy about others, who are being loved. If you feel envy, you are growing from bad to worse. Our envy can make us do odd things which took us into more trouble or bad habits. If you want to be loved, live a loveable life.

We love our children. If one of our children is more obedient and following our instructions, then we love them more than a disobedient child. That is what happened here. Jacob finds some good qualities in Joseph. We can find this good quality while Joseph stayed with his Egyptian master Potiphar, one of Pharaoh’s officials. We can also find his good qualities while Joseph was in prison. Everyone loved him. There is no point in feeling bad about it. Let us correct our ways.

The third reason for the trouble of Joseph was his shared dreams. Remember, it is good to have dreams. Dreams about our life. Dreams about our future. But be cautious in sharing it with others. Some of your friends or relatives may not welcome it with a happy heart. Few may try to stop you from reaching your goal. That is what happened here. See the words of Joseph's brothers.

So Joseph went after his brothers and found them near Dothan. But they saw him in the distance, and before he reached them, they plotted to kill him. “Here comes that dreamer!” they said to each other. “Come now, let’s kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns and say that a ferocious animal devoured him. Then we’ll see what comes of his dreams.”

They are trying to harm him just because of his dreams. They are saying; “Come now, let’s kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns and say that a ferocious animal devoured him. Then we’ll see what comes of his dreams.” They all are concerned about his dreams. Your shared dreams can give you troubles. But, if it is a Godly dream, no one can stop you from attaining it. God is there to take care of your dream.

God put him in charge of all Egypt and his brothers one day came to him and bowed down. His dream come true that day.

Once aging Joseph showed his good character by saying to his brothers: "But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save many people alive. Now, therefore, fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them."

He is speaking to his brothers who tried to kill him, who tried to shatter his dreams. He not only thinking about his brothers but also about his children too. See what he said: "I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them". What an attitude! Once again he proved that he is worthy to receive all the blessings. Can you be like Jesus?

The more you succeed, the more gets thrown on your shoulder

The difficult part of becoming more successful is that the more you succeed the more gets thrown on your shoulder. Remember the parable of Talents where Jesus told that "The master commanded that the one talent be taken away from that servant, and given to the servant with ten talents, because everyone that has much will be given more, and whoever that has a little, even the little that he has will be taken away." Whether it is your studies, politics, carrier, family, financial, irrespective of the area of your activity, it happens. It is because achievers get noticed and people expect more from them. It is a double-edged sword, being accomplished or succeeding. If you quit, you are a quitter. If you excel and continue in growing, you will get more to do and eventually you will feel you are a failure even though you are not.

It happens to everyone in some way or other at different times. That is why many of us find our place where we feel more comfortable. And we settle there. It is like the vehicle stuck in the mud. The more you try to move, the deeper you get. So it is very easier to stay where you are at. One of the major reasons for people feeling stuck up is that they are disorganized. The more you are organized, the more you will get to do.

One of the reasons for the big arguments and fights in the family and workplace are because of the unfinished task which one was supposed to do in addition to many other tasks. When it is pointed out, there will be an explosion. "I have only two hands! What do you expect?!!" The more this happens to you or your friends, you are convinced that just staying small is the way to go. Doing more only gets you in trouble. It will make you feel bad about your life. You will get criticized. And it will make you angry at life.

Due to which many find it is better to stay quiet, give no suggestions, no answer, no question, be average, be like everyone else. It will get you more disorganized. And will lead you in the path of more disorganized.

Let us look at the organized people. They are free and ready to do more. They can do thing two times or three times, even ten times more than others, without even breaking a sweat. Work then becomes play and you get to play more often. Imagine you had a place for everything and it was always there. Imagine if you never had to hunt for your wallet again. Imagine you were able to get everything done on time, on schedule and on budget. You are able to plan for all those unexpected expenses and delays that everyone else forgets about. It will happen when your mind is organized. You will ask the questions that you supposed to ask. Your life, your carrier, your kids, all on track, because you are on track.

That is how when you are organized. Productivity goes up, Stress goes down. Then life is fun and fun is life.
