Apparently, the United Nations appointed an Ambassador to deal with any visiting aliens.

Suppossedly, the Sunday Times reported that this has caused a lot of controversy, both around the world and within the United Nations itself.

Mazlon Othman, Head of The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs was appointed to be the official channel for first contact with an alien race.

It has been speculated, that this could be a prelude to an announcement that contact has already been made. There are those that think Governments have been keeping secret, previous visits by aliens. The stories of Area 51 and others. Recently, there seems to of been an increase in the number of reported UFO sightings and of course there is currently, a lot of hype with the Maya 2012 predictions.

I do not know if this appointment is true or not. If it is, then it is about time. If it isn't, then it should be rectified immediately.

If we haven't already been visited by aliens, there is surely a possibility that we could be in the future. We should at least be constructing a unified course of action to be taken in such an event. At first contact, we will of course have the question of language, how to communicate with the aliens. There is also the possibilities as to whether they are hostile or friendly. We must also consider any new technologies that we may learn from them. Even if they have been watching us from afar, I doubt that they would hold any strong Earthly, political views. This means that, if, they wished to reveal any new technologies to us, it would probably be intended for all the world to share, not just the country on which they landed. Therefore the United Nations is the correct institution to appoint an Ambassador on our planets behalf.

The first job that the UN Ambassador should do is, after consulting with countries governments, declare these alien stories as true or false. That way people can concentrate on any real issues that there may be and not have to waste time on trying to prove or disprove, what may or may not be.

I've been studying this subject and collecting mostly factual information that seems related and trying to piece it all together. Check out my hubs for more info.

A good read. I do believe that the appointment is real and that they are gearing up to reveal the truths behind alien encounters. I also believe that they may have always been here and haven't actually left.

Definitely seems like governments worldwide are preparing to deliver some sort of news. I don't think the UN would be creating a position (particularly a paid one) for an alien ambassador otherwise. Great hub!

Reminds me of a beautiful "Twilight Zone" called, "To Serve Man" (on a platter).

And yes, "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (original). We need a unified voice.

This is interesting. I truly hope that all this is more than a fantastic story for masses to look away from the real problems around the world, but personally, I'm more than skeptical.

I saw this reported on a scrolling newsline at the bottom of the screen as I watched the news last week. Whether or not it is real, it is still a good idea to discuss the matter world wide. Contact with a "unified" alien world would force us to answer questions of how we would deal with them, as we, as humanity, could find ourselves tied up with our own strings if we tried to deal with them solely as separate nations on all matters. We could be like individual sticks that could be easily broken instead of a buch of sticks which would not. The movie, "The Day The Earth Stood Still" (The original), illustrates this when Klatu receives the answers from the different nations regarding a world meeting with him.

      Great hub!

I heard about the UN thing. Interest in UFO's and such I think started when I was a kid after the second World War.
