   I may sound a bit sarcastic or cynical, but sometimes when I watch what people do and say (especially those pictures of people at our 'Superstores'!), I wonder if we are just a slightly more intelligent breed of them!

   Let's think of the main trunk of a tree and further up, it has split into two branches.
   
   The analogy here is that the main trunk stands for the common ancestor that we share with the monkeys. The descendants split into two branches-- one eventually gave rise to humans while the other, to apes.
   
   Basically, it is still possible for both to co-exist in this time. It's just that, one branch rose higher than the other.

   Maybe the primates degenerated off the homo sapien line. Is there really a missing link that proves they didn't. Won't be the first time an equations been turned up-side down for a new paradigm. Something to ponder on in any event.

   Quite an interesting question i must say. As the evolution process has observed over the period of centuries, in the same species some creatures inherits the way of living and follows them for the rest of the life. However some others goes out of the box to fight for their existence, often affected by the surroundings.
   
   For example, in human kind there are people who look for physical research data to believe the fact, lets call them H1, where others, H2 kind, accepts it as they were told so by some person or people they are influenced by. Humans who look out for research and data tend to use their brain more than the one's who just accepts the fact. As evolution process suggests, evolution and growth of mind in H1 will be more obvious then H2. It works and has worked the same way during the entire process of evolution from Amoeba to Humans and so will it continue to. In the end, if H2 are able to survive, they will be as they are today where H1's brain will evolve and grow to a better one.
   
   This is the same way, why monkeys and apes are still around though humans have evolved from them.

   Uh... because we didn't evolve from monkeys or apes. We share a common ancestor with them but diverged about 8 million years ago. One fork evolved into gorillas and chimps, and the other evolved hominids (early humans).

   There are already a couple of good answers about the "common ancestors" concept, so I won't rehash that.
   
   But I'll add that, as far as contemporary science can discern, if you go far enough back we share a common genetic heritage with *every living creature upon this Earth*--and some of them have been around, essentially unchanged, for more than a billion years.
   
   And if that's not miraculous--a true mind-bending wonder--I don't know what is.

   true that..that is why i don't believe in darwin's theory when we where studying that in highschool..i tottally disagree..cos every monkey should already evolve..if there is such evolution exist..i wonder if darwin is a christian believer or an atheist or agnostic..that makes him come out to this kind of mentality or theory..SCIENCE AND THEOLOGY  don't agree together..cos some scientist feel like GOD like..for me i don;t believe we evolve from apes..i belive GOD created us and we came from ashes and to ashes we will go back...amen!!!
