What causes "parents" to put THEIR WANTS & DESIRES above that of their children's
socioeconomic & financial well-being and future, putting these precious children in unstable financial, constantly struggling, and impoverished, even below poverty to satisfy these parents' wants and desires?
Many factors. Education, social up bringing, having children too early, and just plain old "crap happens sometimes". Almost everyone is just one horrible thing from being unstable financially. I don't think most who have their children in struggling circumstances are satisfying some person desire. That's kind of hard to do when you're poor.
Newer generations of parents have never adopted a lot of the traditional parental beliefs. A lot of parents today have been known to want be their child's "best friend". A lot of kids have never heard their parents say the word "no".
Some parents get high and drink with their teens. Allow them to have their boyfriends/girlfriends stay overnight in their rooms. They indulge them by providing them with the latest cell phone, tablets, latest fashions, and if the child is a young adult in their 20s some single parents have been known to go nightclubbing with them.
This is especially common among people who had children while they themselves were very young. It's as though they're growing up with their children. They lack the maturity to set aside money for college funds or handle finances well. Their motto is "Live for today".
When there is no clear (line) between being a child and being a parent it's not likely for the adult in that relationship is to act responsibly. It's almost as if they are in competition with their kids.
Most parents today have never attended a PTA meeting nor do they know when their child's report card is being issued. They're not sitting down to help children with their homework or working as team with their teachers.
Parents often feel it is their right to do so since they are the head of the family and provide the food on the table. It's the hierarchy thing. However, this doesn't mean that they neglect the needs of the children or their wants. Maybe they also think they are training their children to learn to be frugal and to not take things for granted. Maybe they want their children to learn that some things have to be earned, as a preparation for living in a grown up world.
