What do you remember about the best teacher you ever had?  What was his or her name?

There is something about a great teacher that makes us even remember their name.  We are forever grateful to them so I thought I'd give us a chance to pay a tribute to that teacher we will never forget.

There have been a few great teachers in my life, but the top would be L.A. Smith (I never knew her first name) who was my college English professor for both English Comp and Technical Writing. Until I took her classes I hated writing any kind of paper. Besides teaching me about writing styles and using proper grammar (I still make mistakes), the best lesson she taught me was to "write about something you have a passion for". Even though she never knew I wanted to write a novel, it was because of her encouragement and support of my other writing that I made the attempt and succeeded at becoming a novelist.

What a great gift she gave to you.  I know that you will be forever grateful for one who helped you bring once invisible worlds to life, and be able to share those worlds with others.

There are a few that stand out to me.
In elementary school out was Mrs.Smith, my 1st & 4th grade teacher.
In middle school, it was Mr. Ksenich and Mr. Orr.
In high school, it was Mr. Miller.

What stands out to me was their kindness, patience and love. They all treated me with respect, as an equal. They saw my potential and encouraged it. They not only spoke important things to my mind and heart, but they actually listened to me as well. They took the time to know me, advise me, not just school advice, but words I could take with me for life. They made me feel important.
I thank each of them for their contributions to who I became. Most importantly, I thank the Lord for placing them in my life at just the right times.
    God bless you.

You just wrote the best guide book ever for any new teacher wondering how to be an effective educator.  This is so on the target.

His name was Marty Hudkins and he taught Algebra.  He was also the football coach.  I was moved to his 9th grade class when I was failing 8th grade Honors Algebra.  He had a reputation for being gruff and mean.  I was terrified.  (My 8th grade algebra teacher had told me I was too stupid to understand advanced math, and here I was now with 9th graders.)

Mr. Hudkins tutored me before and after school until I was one of the top two A students in his class.  I don't remember encouragement or praise from him, just a gruff "Now, we're back on track" when my grades started improving.

Once I was actually IN high school, his reputation was still as gruff and mean, but I was his biggest defender and would wave and smile when I saw him.  His dedication helped me learn, even though he wasn't warm and fuzzy like other favorite teachers I've had.

Daisy ~ I have a VERY similar story.  I even wrote a little about in the hub where I paid tribute to my grandmother.  Ahhh..I was so happy to get with a better math teacher who taught me that all problems can be solved if we have an open mind.
