    This can be pretty tricky.

I think there's no amount of coddling or school policies that can prevent bullying in its totality. So it's important to teach a child how to deal with it. At some point a kid will have to stand up for themselves without the aid of a teacher. This doesn't necessarily mean getting into a fight but rather being smarter with day to day interactions with others. But if it does come down to fisticuffs, it should be worthwhile for a parent to take the time to show a child how to properly defend themselves and when its appropriate.

Just my two cents. Hey take a moment and look at my page and if you like what you see follow me!

I agree. I don't think the schools really know how to handle it on per individual, so they do an all-encompassing education. Each bully needs to be confronted individually because it is so easy to go "Oh, they aren't talking about me."

I wrote about this in part in my hub Why Bullying is on the Rise.
Sometimes it is a problem with HOW we define bullying to include things that aren't. Solving other cases is hindered by schools having a no-tolerance policy that penalizes self defense, often to an immoral degree.

Being mean or saying mean words to another is considered Bullying these days. The schools are not confronting the real problem - lack of values.

We aren't even controlling gang violence in the streets and kids assaulting each other and teachers. Micromanaging language is a luxury we cannot afford right now.

You are saying we shouldn't teach values?
