How can children be encouraged to reach their full academic potential?
I'd say parents should be encouraging "learning" over pushing "studying". To me studying is just memorizing with only the purpose of remembering the info. If you get them more focused on the idea of learning something new, and something they're interested in it might make it less tedious for them and allow them to naturally reach they're academic potential.
If they figure out their interests early in the game, it'll make the idea of learning things that aren't as fun easier to swallow because they'll known if they want to learn everything about their interests, they'll have to learn the other stuff too.

Should children be encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities if they show no interest? Why or why not be concerned if your child does not want to participate in sports, music or art outside of school? What can you do to help them overcome fears or other obstacles to participation?
