My daughter is becoming a nurse right now. Attend a 4 year college who offers a BSN (bachelor of nursing) degree. It has become a very highly competitive selection to get accepted into the nursing school. Because of this, you will need to put yourself in the best possible light when you apply.
They do require volunteer hours, preferably at a hospital. You may also want to get a CNA Certified Nursing Assistant or LVN license before actually applying for nursing school. This way you get all the clinical hours in and you also are working in the industry which adds experience to your application.
