Around here in the Miami Valley (ohio) it was the 1913 flood. Hard to say that anything was a blessing about the flood to the people who suffered from it but the Miami Conservancy District was formed and the engineers designed flood controls that are a model used worldwide to control flooding.
Disasters as we have come to know them as of late have become extreme. There are everyday blessings that arise out of hopelessness and devastation, and those blessings are the helping hand of a stranger to pull you from the pit of despair when all hope seems lost. The blessing of surviving to live another day and enjoy those you love the blessing of knowing that you’re not alone and will rebuild a life that has been destroyed. it is the ears and shoulders given to you when you need to cry or someone to listen. it is in the support of your family, friends and fellow citizens who dig right in and get to work to put it all back together. Out of destruction, raises the strength, determination and the will to go on. it is this blessing that shines the most in times of disaster it is called the human spirit and every time disaster strikes it is then the blessing holds true and the fight to survive and lend a hand to those in need is the blessing that makes the difference.
