Whilst talking with some other Hubber's we were disscussing new technologies, and i thought it would make for a good disscussion here!

So what technological, scientific or engineering advancement do you think will cause man to advance the most and why?

Nanotechnology, Quantum computing, the mermister, superstring theory, sustainable energy...

These are just some the list is endless and i appreciate peoples thoughts on the matter.

Cloning. Who wouldn't want a clone of a supermodel?

Who wouldn't want a clone of themselves? I'd make them do all the work.

Do you know what that one didn't even cross my mind, think there will be too many legislations for it to really take off though.. But clones to do work would be nice...means I could do this more big_smile The models wouldn't be bad either wink

What about cybernetics? combining organic matter and robots they could also do your work, and maybe look like a super model but not sure gives a whole new meaning to "are they real?"

Cloning mixed with genetic engineering, and cybernetic implants= ultimate clone, or dream woman.

      Yes.

Cryonic sleep would also be good, but there are rules against that too. You have to be legally dead to be frozen.

What about bio technology - from clones to pill shaped beans; trees that grow into houses, fireflies that light up the streets; or bacteria that could clean our teeth, shave us, bathe us and so on.

Although my first thought was something like the Supersonics.  Did anyone ever see them?

Bio-technology is certainly a massive field, but I think in the political blame climate we live in at the moment, bio-sciences especially genetic modification , using organisms to perform tasks and cloning will be hampered by policy, due to fears and posible political backlash.

Don't get me wrong i would love to see an explosion of applications in these fields but things unfortunatly need to change first.

I love the idea of tree's growing into houses and fire flies lighting our streets really paints a nice picture big_smile

Following the way nature works. It leaves nothing to waste like we do,everything is utilized by some other animal or organism.

Energy is one of the biggest problem of the world today. Any technology that can solve future energy issues will be the one that will advance us in next 100years. The technology should not just solve the energy issue but should make sure that it do not effect our environment. Environment concerns are yet another big challenge today.

I watched a program on Nat Geo today (3 hours long) about autistic and prodigious savants.  They have determined that the "flaws" in the brains of these miraculous humans are what give them these extraordinary "powers".  They have tested this by using magnetic fields to temporarily "stunt" a portion of a "normal" person's brain, thus allowing that person to exhibit talents he usually would not be able to demonstrate.  It used a non-surgical method and the results were incredible.  However the effects were quite short-lived.

If they could come up with a device that would allow (on a long-term basis) anyone to become an instant Maestro at the piano, a super mathematician, or an incredible creative writer just by strapping on a device for a few minutes, I think that would be unbelievable!

I think the USA should concentrate on energy, infrastructure, and equality of all citizens. Turn this country into what it was born to be; one with hope and the desire to live your dreams, freedom to think and believe, hope for a happier future, and life without fear......

    Quantum mechanics wins all.

    Examples:
Creating food from garbage (remodifying molecules)
Desalination of water in portable use
Other sources of energy (clean, etc.)

The definitive explanation of string theory which will lead to possible time travel and inter universe travel. Mind control technology.
