How do you avoid mosquitos with standing water in this container?

Use something with a lid and route the water in through a pipe.

You could also get a rain butt, which collects rain water from the roofs of shed, greenhouses or your house. You can buy a connector which will take water straight from the gutter downpipe. They are generally made of plastic, and have a lids, with a tap at the base to drain water out.
