It does depend on what you are referring to, but the schoolbook definition that i learnt in economics is the study of allocation of scarce resources among unlimited wants and needs
1) Economics is the branch of social science that deals with the production and distribution and consumption of goods and services and their management2) Economics is the social science that examines how people choose to use limited or scarce resources in attempting to satisfy their unlimited wants.3) The study of how the forces of supply and demand allocate scarce resources.
