Your first impression w hether true or false is the primary foundation for how you feel towards a person, place or thing. As a therapist, I can tell you it is all a part of critical thinking. Consider Richard Ramirez the "Night stalker". After causing the deaths of thirteen people he is still the "Mick Jaegger" of death row. The man was allowed to be married on death row. The very thing you are asking about. Judgements are impessions and they do not change lightly. The woman that married Ramirez let her false judgement(based entirely on his looks)ruin her life as her family now has nothing to do with her and she can't expect a normal life and children. Now she represses all the truth that came out in trial and considers herself his savior. True impressions can cause repression because truth can be very entense and if something is negative or horrific, the subconcious tries to repress the impression or judgement. This is done in the attempt to protect a persons ego and persona.
