How does your creativity heal you or otherwise benefit yourself and others?

As a child my journal was my best friend and helped me through a lot of struggles in my formative years.  As I grew writing became my tool of choice to grow personally and to reach out to has creativity benefited you? (writing or otherwise creative)

I like to write. Writing novels help me deal with the things in real life. In the world I create, I am free to make decisions, and dream the things I dare not dream. And I make new friends who share the same interest as me.

Interesting that you propose creativity as a means to heal myself or others. I suppose that this healing might be a by-product of the creative process. Expressing oneself creatively may be cathartic, but maybe as a result of this activity only, at least for me. I suppose if one identifies or recognizes writing, drawing or scultping as healing one might continue this activity. I know that when I have written poetry or prose others have commented that it has touched them or helped them, but I did not write it consciously for that purpose. So, for me I guess being creative for the purpose of self-healing or for helping others would be secondary. I'll have to re-think writing as self-healing or for the purpose of helping others. Thanks for the question ChristinS!
