Job Corps is a second chance at high school and career preparation for youth ages 16 to 24. Jacksonville is a perfect place for this program in Florida and offers a lot of academic and personal opportunities. read more

I did go to Job Corps in Blackwell, WI about 15 years ago. So I'll tell you about that center. You will have to get up every morning at about 6am. You will live in a dorm and might have to share a bunk bed. You have to do your assigned cleaning everyday. They sometimes make everyone clean the grounds from ciggarettes, trash, and shovel snow.(In WI the snow went to my knees!)
They have good trades and programs so you can get your G.E.D. or H.S.E.D.
They will let you go at your own pace with the GED lessons and trade assignments.
They have a no tolerance policy- after you are accepted if you fail a drug test, alcohol test, fight you will be kicked out. I saw many leave this way.

They gave me about $30 a week so I could buy snacks, soap and etc- or I could even had saved it.They also gave me a clothes allowance and took me to Jcpennys-it was about 150.00 maybe. They had a on site doctors office. You can get wrote up if you don't comply with rules and will be restricted to the site.
You get to go home around christmas and visit family.

There are a lot of different people that come to Job Corps so you will need to be serious and focused and not hang out with those that are causing trouble and etc so you can finish what you came there to do.

They will issue you army clothes and boots even if you don't need them for the trade you pick. You get to pick 3 trades in the order of how much you want to take that course-I had to take my 2nd choice until there was an opening for my 1st choice.
Your room has to stay clean and pass a military type inspection- bed made a certain way and dust free surfaces. Job corps is a good place if you are serious about it- it gives people another chance. I really liked it there even though I missed my family.I was there for about a 1 yr & 1/2. I know I rambled on but I hope this helps you out.
