Have you ever experienced an earthquake? If you have, where were you at the time, and what happened?

Yes, in Toronto Ontario...forgot the year, but it was in December...just before Christmas... we lived in a highrise building...my huge Fiscus plant started shaking and the recliner I was sitting in felt like something had happened to the mechanism; I got up and it felt like the whole room was shifting...then I heard people in the hallways exclaiming that it was an earthquake. It was. No serious damage anywhere and many low lying buildings didn't even know it had happened! Not very exciting except I found it unnerving.

Yes, I grew up in So. Calif. and there were earthquakes often, but not huge ones. I was in one big on in the 70's.  There is a horrible rumbling so deep in the earth you aren't sure if you are hearing it or feeling it.  Then the earth sort of heaves, water sloshed out of my aquarium and that was all the damage.  People near the epicenter were not that lucky, I'm afraid.

A very minor one on Oahu a couple of years ago. I was sitting up in bed reading and felt a slight vibration go through the bed. I thought to myself, "Was that an earthquake?" Later in the day, the news reported a small earthquake off the Big Island of Hawaii.

I am a native Californian so yes. In fact when I was in elementary school we use to have drills in what to do in the event of an earthquake. Basically it was crawl under the desk and pull your knees to your chest .  I remember several but one was when I was working in an office with glass partitions. No body wants to be the first under the desk. Others will casually find a doorway to stand in.

I also experienced one in Turkey whilst on vacation there. As in California, it comes with the territory and the hotel staff didn't seem concerned.

Never. Feel sorry and sad to those who experienced it...I couldn't imagine if I were to experience it personally, it should be a scary and unforgettable experience...

Every day since September we had the 7.1 in  2010 till now. literally thousands. The 6.3 in 2011 that killed 182 and two buildings collapsed. We seem to get a 6 pointer every 3-4 months. sad
