What is the reason that eggs have a pocket of air in their shells?
An egg has membrane layers that pull apart after being laid by a hen. This causes a pocket of air to form. A chicken needs oxygen as it develops and an egg actually has thousands of pores that allow the chick to breathe.
So the chicken has room to cross the road.
