This is a very good question. Sinuses are hollow spaces. The sinuses help humidify the air we breathe in and also they enhance our voices. They also make our head feel lighter. Our head can be quite heavy without the air filled bony cavities. The sinuses make mucous like the nose and very likely to contribute to the immune defense system by filtering the air (similar to the nose).
