This is a good question.  This process has seen much discussion in the news  and its use in retrieving the oil reserves which have been identified to exist within our borders.  Though the process has been developed earthquakes have been occurring for many years without the use of the fracking process.  Determining what triggers earthquakes is not within our capability at this point in time.  We do know that the plates under the ground cause earthquakes when they shift but it is unknown what causes the shift to occur.  In this respect it is impossible to directly connect this process with the occurrences of earthquakes.

It doesn't cause earthquakes, it just makes the ones that do happen more violent.

Since the 1970's, China has injected water into depleting oil fields to keep the "natural" pressure up in the oil reservoir for extracting more oil, "Earthquakes induced by water injection have occurred in four oil fields" - http://voices.yahoo.com/synthetic-earth … 93136.html
