A sun-spot is a dark area on the surface of the sun. It cannot be said positively what a sun-spot is; but astronomers now consider it to be a vast whirlpool of electrons-particles of electricity. Some sun-spots cover many thousands of square miles. Round the edges of a spot the telescope reveals great tongues of flame. The appearance of spots on the sun is often accompanied by what are called magnetic storms on the earth, which upset the working of electrical apparatus

Renowned physicist Nassim Haramein supposes they are a vortex leading to a black hole in the middle of the sun.  On the exact opposite side you will see another spot.  Oh yeah, and water comes out of sun spots.  Search the internet for "nassim rogue library" for a presentation that will thoroughly blow your mind. :-)
