What are the best ways to learn a new language?
The best way to learn a new language is to immerse yourself in it, just like you jump into the deep water to learn how to swim. Study and learn the foreign language in the country where it is spoken. If you can't do that, try to recreate the same environment in your home country by surrounding yourself with native speakers of the foreign language and its culture.
I use audio tapes ( some libraries have these) along with You Tube videos. You Tube does have some good tutorials up there by different high school/ college lectures.
With You Tube I try to ensure the person teaching it is from that country, or at least a professional in that area. They seem to be better with helping with the pronunciation which is important when learning a new language for any country.
Well, it depends. You might come quite far by following general advice like that you will get as an answer to this question but it would possibly be a solid waste of time as learning (a language) efficiently and successfully depends on many conditions like age, prior education, biological learning speed, social environment, motivation, material, teacher, fellow-students and health (possibly not complete). So the best advice I have after 12 years of teaching and having had to study more than 10 languages would be the same I give to people asking for a cure to their serious health problem: go see a professional (tutor). Look for the best. They are worth every single cent and what's more important, minute. It is a pleasure to work with pros.
Get a conversation partner! It is fairly easy to find online tutorials or audio tapes for most languages, but nothing beats having regular conversations with a native speaker. I've taken two distance education spanish courses now, and though I can read and understand spanish relatively well, my speaking/writing skills are abysmal... because I haven't been forced to 'think in spanish' in conversational settings. The best thing you can do if you are serious about learning, is to find a tutor who speaks the language and is willing to meet on a regular basis to practice with you! You can usually find language tutors online, on sites like kijiji or craigslist.
I've personally tried various methods and had varrying degrees of sucess, but if you want to really learn a new language fast, get married, however, even when you learn it, your never going to understand it.
There are various ways :
1) Immerse yourself in it as much as you can
2) Attend a class
3) Self-study - there's a wealth of material online and in the library
4) Practice, practice, practice! in any possible way that you can.
Best ways to learn a new language is to go to another country where you want to learn a new language for example if you want to learn French, I suggest you go to France and learn from there. Interact with the locals and find out about the culture too. I learnt how to speak Arabic by working in Kuwait as a Nanny before. It was hard to begin with but after three months I was speaking Arabic and was able to communicate with anyone especially the kids who I looked after who can't speak English. I have written a hub about it but am not sure whether it gets published.
