What contributes most to the decline of tigers in the wild; deforestation or illegal trade?
Definitely deforestation and habitat destruction. Tigers roam a lot, so cutting their habitat up into pockets really doesn't help them (or any big cat).
Shrinking habitat due to encroachment of what we call "civilization" is probably the biggest problem, but illegal trade in skins;and vital organs used in fulfilling spurious medical claims play a part too.
