    Why is art important?

Or is it? We can't survive without air, water, food. But art? What is it good for?

Well isn't this a provocative question! Assuming you could actually define 'art' then it might be easier to answer. But there are a couple of points. Basic needs are Food, water, clean air, shelter and sex. Without all those, life does not continue. But it would continue without art as this is not a basic need. However, it is a base-requirement for humans. Art, in all its forms is what makes life pleasurable beyond basic sexual needs. Art is integral to humans and is inseparable from the social glue that holds groups together, provides a means of communication and transmits thoughts that are not otherwise easily transferred. This is why evidence of art has been unearthed from the earliest archaeological finds. Without art, human social networks would break down and we would regress to a solitary state.

Art is a form of expression without art, the world would be a very dull place, it allows people an outlet they wouldn't otherwise have.

In art, you can pretty much express anything: your thoughts, words, feelings, dreams, everything. People let out their heart, their soul, their creativity and create something other people wonder and think about. Maybe they find something and create a different art to express their feelings and so on and on.
