The primary benefit of knowing two languages is the new insight into the culture of the second language you have learned. Even if you read a lot of books about a country or live there, you won't completely understand its culture without learning well its language.
By knowing two languages you can expand access to information. You shouldn't be limited to only one source of information in one language. Brain activity improves by broadening your communication skills.
