What is acid rain? Is there a basic rain as well like acid rain?
The pollutants like SO2, CO, NO2 in environment reacts with humidity(H2O) and form Acids. This Acidic water reach ground in form of Acid Rain. No there are not any basic rain because there is no Base in environment(and if it does it is not harmful at all). Acidic rain is major cause of concern for Architectures made of marble. Taj Mahal, one of seven wonders in India was affected by acidic rain.
Highly basic substances are just as harmful as highly acidic substances. There are also plenty of naturally occurring basic chemicals, such as calcium.
However, our pollutants happen to be mostly acidic in nature, so that is why we get acid rain.
Emissions from sources such as factories, gasoline engines and other poisonous waste materials combine with the H2O or moisture in the clouds that form rain. When it mixes, it becomes acidic and falls to earth, getting in all freshwater sources that we need for drinking, providing nourishment for plant life and the other foods that we consume. It disturbs the Echo cycle and creates havoc with the whole revolving process of replenishing water hat has been evaporated by sunlight. The whole life process is greatly handicapped by dumping poisonous wastes and burning and chopping down huge forests that serve as a sanctuary for millions of creatures dependent upon these resources. The major currents are affected and some are reversing their courses causing big changes in weather and fish that have followed the same channels for eons.Every living creature is affected severely by acid rain, and its poisonous effects on us all may well lead to our demise, if we are not more vigilant.
