Can polio attacks young like at the age of 30 - 40 & how dangerous it can be at that age?
What are the possible causes for spread of this disease. Does it need any care while meeting or living with an infected person?
Polio usually attacks children. In 1916, some 27,000 Americans were struck by polio, about 9,300 of them were children who resided in New York. Jonas Salk was only two years old then also living in that city but he was not afflicted because his mother, Dora, was a spartan in sanitation. He did not allow Jonas to play with neighbors. She did not allow her husband, Daniel, to enter the house with his shoes on from work. Polio strikes 30 or more year old. Franklin D. Roosevelt got the polio in 1921 when he was 39 years old. He was not yet president and he found the warm springs of Georgia that he believed would cure his almost useless legs. He proclaimed the Georgia Warm Springs into the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis now March of Dimes as rehabilitation center for polio victims. It was this foundation that gave research grants to Dr. Jonas Salk since 1948 in developing the Salk killed poliovirus vaccine.launched in 1955.
