Are there any castles still in use from the dark ages?
By in use, I mean for residence or something of the sort... Not tourist destinations or museums.
As the Dark Ages roughly covers the 6th through 13th centuries, there won't be much but there are some things. In July I was in France and ate in a restaurant that now occupies what was a originally a house when it was built back in 1407 (early 13th century).
Yes, Mespelbrunn Castle in Mespelbrunn, Germany about 20 miles outside of Frankfurt, Germany in the Spessard Woods. It is inhabited by the original family and is only open to tourists in the summer. It is a private residence. Beautiful original castle from the Middle Ages. I have written a hub about it.
