Why do people have a hard time seeing thing's from someone else's point of view?
There is a human tendency to not want to be "wrong". Once we form an opinion about something we are more likely to want to (defend) it rather than explore the possibility that we overlooked an important point. Last but not least our society tends to view a person who changes his mind easily as being weak or a "flip flopper". You will garner more respect for holding onto your beliefs however flawed they may be than if you were to change your mind with each new tidbit of new information that comes along.
Because we are selfish and have never been in their life. We will never know everything they went through and what contributes to their personality.
