Does anyone have advice or opinions about getting an Ed. S. or Ed. D. degree?

    Does anyone have advice or opinions about getting an Ed. S. or Ed. D. degree?

    It depends on what your end goal is.

    If you plan on teaching at the primary or secondary level, then an Ed.S. would work well for you. If you want to work at the beginning levels of higher education, like as an adjunct, then an M.Ed will work.

    However, if your intentions are to work in a supervisory role like a curriculum specialist, then you will need to go for an Ed.D. The Ed.D. is considered the professional doctorate for those in this field.

    But if you know you want to be a college/university professor that is a contender for a full-time, tenure track position, then you need to pursue a Ph.D. in Education.

      Thanks for the response.  I have a MLS, but nobody in my city wants an academic librarian anymore.  I could teach research and writing, though, if given the chance.

      No problem, kschimmel. Your degree sounds really cool. Sorry they do not see the value in your degree in your area. But I think there is a lot that can be done with an MLS, especially consulting work.
