When would a cockroach live longer: under water, or, when the head is chopped off?
Cockroaches don't die from drowning since they can swim. Chopping their head off is a bit gory but probably the most effective way to assure their death.
A cockroach would live longer headless than when in water. Putting the cockroach under the water is just like cutting its head off. It has no way to breath and obtained food since its body is designed to live on land. If it is headless then the only problem it has is how would it eat. However, they have an unbelievable survival potential that they can live for days without eating.
