Where did you learn your Yiddish?
Ok, seems like a weird question. I was watching Andy Cohen and he did a game about how much Yiddish do you know? I was surprised at just how much Yiddish I knew. I must attest it to my 90s obsessive addiction to the television show, The Nanny. Just have did you learn your Yiddish?
I saw this question on my account page. I do not know any Yiddish. I took Spanish in high school and the only full sentence that I remember is a question ?Como esta usted? I wanted to take German, since some of my family seemed to be German, but I let my classmates talk me into the Spanish.
Half my school were Jewish. It kind of percolated out to the others. Sometimes I would slide a few Yiddish worlds into conversation without realising it. It's a very colourful language with a lot of great jokes, some hard to translate into English.
