Huh, never thought about that before, Nose-in-the-News! Well, it depends on how you define consciousness.
And that's not easy to do!!
I suppose I'd say a snail does not have a consciousness...yet. Evolution may provide one in the future, just as some scientists are attempting to insert consciousnesses into computers.
The operative word here is 'yet'.
Absolutely! I am a snail in many ways metaphorically. I assert and confirm I do have a consciousness. I may disagree with its definition leaning toward it is a variable with respect to entities of being one or more. I do have a brain, I can sense with either the known five and one unknown sixth sense, and I have a memory with memories, even though cognitively impaired at times.
Great question Nose-in-the-News
It would be interesting to know what you mean by 'metaphorically'. How can you be a snail metaphorically? Hmm.
Hello Nose-in-the-News. I am thinking now of the movie Turbo about a snail and racing. I giggle a tad as that offers contrast for the metaphor or allegory I move kinda' slow on things sometimes . . . real slow. A keyword for consciousness is "Aware".
