What do you think happens to a person's spirit when they pass away?
I believe in the theory of karma and reincarnation. According to this theory, when a person dies, soul escapes from his/her body and seeks another body to take a new life form (reincarnation/rebirth). Soul is eternal and it wears body like human beings wear clothes. The rebirth is determined by the karma in previous life.
PS: I have written about this in detail in a hub. You may check, if you want.
I think a more accurate question would be: 'Where will our consciousness reside when we no longer have a physical body?' For when you say 'a person's spirit when they pass away' you make the assumption that the spirit 'belongs' to us. My contention is we ARE the spirit. The 'I' that looked out through your eyes and saw the world at two years of age is stil the same 'I' that looks out through your eyes and registers a 'world out there' today.
Do not make the mistake that you are your physical body, or even your mind, for that matter. The physical body is changing constantly and the matter that makes it up arises and passes away with the more rapidity than bubbles arising in a glass of champagne. The part of you you regard as you, your physical body, that gets into a shower in the morning, is not the same body that gets out of it a few minutes later. It might appear to be. But it is not. You and I are changing, changing all the time. This is how we grow into adulthood, live our life and then 'die.' The patterns of what we think we are are constantly changing.
We are not our minds, for our most precious beliefs can change over time, and we know we are something CONSTANT. We are the Observer. We are the Witness. We are the Experiencer.
What do I think that happens when we die? We don't die. However, the new environment in which we find ourselves - and that is the question I think you're really asking - is that we will be SOMEWHERE. We will still be observing, witnessing and experiencing. It's a change we must all go through. The question is: Do you fear that change? Or are you sorta looking forward to it as another great adventure?
Your attitude, your Life Philosophy on this most important matter, will make all the difference between a meaningful and and meaningless life. Be sure to pick the one that will bring you happiness.
For my own understanding, at this time, I liken my life to be a wave upon the ocean.
I rise above the ocean surface for a short time... I become manifest in the finite world. I have a consciousness. My eyes can survey the surface, other souls near to me, and all the creation.
Yet, even as the wave, I am part and parcel of the ocean itself, the same water (One Spirit) even though as wave I am separate to some extent.
At death my Spirit has not changed, it is still the ocean, the One Spirit, from which another wave will arise, in due course and this process will continue for ever.
This puts that wave-that-was into perspective and shows my level of significance.

What is the one thing you want to do before you pass away?Don't think about the cost or the danger, just something you would want to do.

Do you think animals go to heaven when they pass away?According the Ecclesiastes 3:19-21 all men and animals come from the dust and go to the dust, that humans have no advantage over the animals. Does this mean beloved pets also go to heaven when they pass on? Wouldn't that be wonderful?

What question is better? The world will never end, or there will be a new heaven and earth?I've heard that the earth will expire in some million years. From Bible verse there is going to be a new heaven and earth and all former things are to pass away. I also believed that the way...

What happens to us after we die?Where do we go? What happens to our thoughts and feelings? Are they gone forever? Is there any real evidence of heaven or hell or reincarnation?

Do you feel sad when actors you have watched when you were young pass away?
