Is Putin going to start World War III?

As Vladimir Putin invades Ukraine, violates G8 regulations, and continues to push the bounds of his neighbors and wahtever allies he has left, I am left wondering if we are about to begin WWIII?

I certainly hope not. He's not going about it very intelligently. He has no allies. He's basically picking a fight with the rest of the world, leaving himself and his country all on their own. World Wars happen when countries align with one another and settle on a common enemy.

No. If anything happens at all it will likely be a civil war much like that in Vietnam where Russia will support one side and the U.S. will support the other side. It is highly unlikely that either country would launch there nuclear missiles at one another over this crisis. The (average American) has very little interest in sacrificing lives for the Ukraine cause. In fact many are okay with Russia taking it.

Putin is a dictator and he will do to protect in  national interests of Russia and Ukraine dependence on Russia for oil and finance made situation vulnerable.
He wants to lead all nations separated from erstwhile USSR.He dreams to build Russian empire. He can not make this unstable for long.  West response is also worrying because just funding will not resolve this issue.
Ukrainian's declension to join EU which Putin thinks as a western sabotage.
There is no possibility of full scale war , volatile situation will bring economic disaster in that region

I don't believe a world war will result from Putin's actions in Ukraine but his stubborn need to reclaim that country could result in a messy internal struggle for power and rights and land.
Russia is economically poor at this moment - despite billionaires springing up all over the place - and Putin is desperate for some positive political news to keep everyone at home quiet. He's not a dictator in the extreme but it's worrying that the right wing extremists are growing in confidence. Media oppression is common and gays and other outspoken groups are being targeted. Bad news for social justice.
It's said that with Putin you have to show strength against him to gain his respect but there's not much the west can do - sanctions won't help - diplomacy might help in the long run but won't stop Russia provoking Ukraine in the short term - and massing western troops is just going to poke the bear and annoy him.
This situation will rumble on and on until the businessmen in Russia start to ask questions about Putin's value as leader and he's forced to act - by removing some of his troops to increase business confidence.
OR the situation might escalate if there are deaths for either side, then there'll be fighting- small arms and artillery perhaps? - followed by TALKS held via the UN.
I hope both sides can restrain themselves. Ukraine and Russia have so much history between them but also a shared culture and many family ties.

The question of Crimea will remain. The answer? Perhaps Putin has answered that already. It's a part of Russia. As long as he's in power.

For the first year of my landing on HubPages, I don't ever post comments, nor visit forums to read and post a 'thread'. I don't know that that ever exists.                                      Now, I do know that I know. And I know                                                  I read History at the university level. But in my class I hadly come across the pofar bear and his culture.                                         Okay that said, I got some threats on newspapers, magazines, books on  WW1&11. Still I hadly took a poke into Russia history.                                                Vla Putin is just a roaring lion that's bent on enslaving Europe. History like a WW1 or  WW11 would not repeat itself, if that's also Putin's intention.                                            For the good of the world and mankind, Putin should get out of Russia fast.
