What is your best or worst memory of the first day of school?

Most kids are very excited on the first day of school.  Maybe it's to wear their new clothes, use their new supplies, or just see old friends.  All of us have memories of those day.  Some are good and some are not so good.

Well, let me first mention we came from somewhat of a rough neighborhood...
The only first day of school I recall is my first day of kindergarten. This part I was told but don't recall at all. Supposedly I was rude to my teacher for making me sit next to someone I guess I didn't want to sit with (Maybe I wanted to sit with my best friend and not a boy because boys were icky lol.)
Although I don't recall throwing a fit in class at all about anything, I do remember spending the morning in the school office (so I must've broken some kind of rule, right?)
I remember the female principal making small talk with me. She's was extremely kind. Children were spending some part of the morning across the street at the school's playground. She allowed me to go with her.
I remember after some time she told me that I was so well behaved and she wanted to treat me. She walked me to the corner store right next store to the school and allowed me to choose any treat I wanted.
For me, that was a great first day of school! I had no more troubles the rest of the year.
Wow, I can't believe I still remember that. Thank you fit allowing me to share this silly story with you lol
And as always, God bless you, Doris Dancy.

You made me laugh about the "icky boys." It's  funny how we change that opinion.  It sounds like you had a caring teacher who understood the first day of school for a little kindergartener was not a good time for punishment. This was funny.

I'm glad it made you laugh! smile Yes, I'm sure "softening up" my day the way she did probably helped me more than I was able to understand at that age. Thank God for kind principals and teachers!

Oh my goodness!  As a child, I had endured five-six new schools because of frequent moving to other states, but I have always made friends quickly.  I think the most memorable first day was my first day as a new teacher - with no education background.  I was a vocalist pulled in to teach middle school choir on an emergency license, but no clue how to lesson plan or manage a class.  As I imagined how it would be, I was seeing visions of Christy on the mountain with me playing guitar and barefoot children circling me with adoring and dirty faces as we sang.

Ever see Sister Act II where Whoopi enters her first classroom?  BINGO!  That was my class.  Singing, sleeping, drawing, dancing, fighting, cursing, and my favorite - the class throwing condoms at me.

LOL...thank goodness things improved!!!!  (Twelve years later, I survived to tell the tale!)

This was truly a laugh out loud post.  I have been a teacher too and i know those BAD days, but I had training before I taught my first class, BUT I think I was still a little like you…scared to death, but things got better. Still giggling...
