What makes a queen bee?
I'm thinking of doing research on the queen bee and how it functions in the group dynamic of the hive. I'd be interested in your input. What sparked my interest is the musings I had on the similarities betwee the figurative queen bee and that of the literal queen bee. The result would be an understanding of the broader meaning of the term.
Among bees, necessity makes for a queen bee. The instinctual knowledge of how to "create" a queen is passed along from generation to generation within the DNA of the worker bees. They rely on this generational knowledge when an elder queen dies off or the hive is forced, through circumstance, to take up residence elsewhere.
Among humans, however, a queen "b" is a nasty-tempered woman with a sense of fashion so sublime it rather makes up for what her personality lacks
Another meaning I've always associated with the queen bee is "termagant." I'm not sure what the male equivalent of queen be or termagant would be, but I think regardless of gender it's not a welcome or attractive personality trait.
