What are your tips for learning a new foreign language?

I have decided to learn Japanese since for my current job, being fluent in Japanese is a huge advantage. I am in my late 20s now so I realize that starting to learn a new language from scratch is exciting but challenging at the same time. So, I'd love to hear other people's tips and advice on learning a new foreign language, and it's even better if it is for Japanese specifically. So far I have signed up for a 3-month course to strengthen my commitment and I am looking forward to starting the class soon.

I would say get a friend who knows Japanese, that would be perfect !! not that just becoming friends as you need to learn his/her language smile

    Based on my experience:
    1) Get familiar with the target language
    2) Understand how is the language shaped (Learn the structure) but not indepth
    3) Practice the language thematically (Immersion approach)
    4) Keep in touch with it
