What are SELFISH, even EGOCENTRIC reasons why people have children? Conversely,
what are UNSELFISH, even ALTRUISTIC reasons why people don't have children?
I answer this in my Hub about love actually...my theory is that, people do it to learn. The people having the child or children will mostly likely unconsciously be thinking about what they haven't been able to learn and have kids to "make them" discover the truth for them since nobody lives forever. I'm going philosophical and I'm not sure that's exactly what you might have been looking for...
Also, if you want to think about it while they are alive, I think people have children to feed off the child support that the government offers until the age of 18. Or even worse, rape and sexual assault (if you want to go that far). I'm just trying to widen your imagination into an extreme view of your question.
By the way, you made a typo in your latter question. You mean, "DO" instead of, "don't."
Oh no, it wasn't a typo. I meant unselfish, even altruistic reasons why people DON'T (as in not wanting) children.
Oh, okay. I apologize. I was sure you meant why parents have children selfishly, as well as unselfishly. Haha, sorry about that.
A Selfish and egocentric reason would most likely be the parent trying to live their unfulfilled dreams through their kid. I've seen Honey Boo Boo...it happens.
An unselfish reason? To be able to raise a kid and let them experience life. Still undecided if I ever want kids, but I dont really see myself wanting them to try and have them be something I never was. Seems like a waste of time and a bit of hassle really.
Their are many reasons that I think people selfishly have children. One being to simply "trap" the person that they are with. Some believe to save a relationship it helps to "get pregnant". Sadly I see it all the time, if anything it hurts that relationship in the long run. Another selfish thing that was stated is the parent wants to fulfill their dreams through the child. That is wrong, we only get one life and eventually that child becomes an adult and makes he/she own choices. Most often it's not the choices of the parents but we all have to make are own path. My last reasoning for people having babies selfishly is "money". A lot of time I hear personally from people stating that having their babies made them pretty wealthy come tax season. Another reason is to get on public assistance. It's sad that children are used this way it's just how it is I suppose. The majority of parents have children for the right reasons.

Why are ruthless, selfish people MORE RESPECTED & oftentimes MORE SUCCESSFULthan kind-hearted, altruistic people? How would you raise your child to be if h/she wishes to be respected & successful- ruthless/selfish or kind-hearted, altruistic?

Why are selfish & self-centered people the happiest & LEAST likely to be taken advantage of, evenADMIRED by others while unselfish & altruistic people tend to be unhappy & are MOST likely to be taken advantage of, even DERIDED by others?

Don't you agree that the best company for a selfish person is a self centered person.I think both will make each other happy without polluting the lives of selfless people.

Have you ever experienced a truely 'Unselfish Act'?I have heard many times that there is no such thing as an unselfish act. Not to say that someones actions aren't well intentioned, just saying there is always a pay off for the person commiting a good deed. Therefore, it can't be considered...
