Any of u thought about a lock box citizens would control for donating to lower the national debt?
I know who would have authority to send the money to the treasury would be another question, and how could the treasury be legally bound to pay down the debt, but I think of all the money raised for all sorts of things, especially crowd funding, and don't get why it wouldn't be possible. A lot of folks don't have confidence in how the taxes are spent - so why not do it ourselves?
I didn't create the national debt, and I don't feel obligated to pay it down. The best way for it to go down is for the government to reduce its size, and lower its costs.
Our tax system allows the rich to get richer, and the middle class to fall into the lower class. Removing the Income Tax and its thousands of loopholes for the wealthy and replacing it with a National Sales Tax similar to the state sales tax is a feared system.
It is very generous of you to assume responsibility of a government debt.
I cannot disagree with you.
The problem is, none of what you suggest will become reality. You should be quite aware of the current political situation. If you think elected leaders are going to do any of the things you suggest when so many interests love the way it is, dream on.
I do not assume the responsibility for the government debt in the sense that I feel somehow guilty for the way I live or the people I have voted for. But what you miss is that the government is us! Even if you don't like it in order to have a voice, we abide in it. Perhaps a financial collapse seems a great answer to you, but some thinking people ponder outside the box (no pun intended).
If there ever is a time when the people pressure government to hold the line on spending (just hold it), it would be nice to have a slug of money to help move the debt in the right direction.
California is a great example of perpetual irresponsibility. I can see the lock box perhaps working even better at that state level.
PS: Sarcasm is the lowest form of humor.
