When does sunlight begin to get longer and when does it begin to get shorter?
The shortest amount of daylight is on the Winter Solstice, which is generally around Christmas. (This year, it's December 21st.) After that, days get longer.
The longest amount of daylight happens on the Summer Solstice, which is generally in late June. (This year, it's June 20th.) After that, days get shorter.
